Sun Chong is a restaurant concept by restaurateur Larry Morrow in New Orleans, Louisiana. Located in the historic district, the existing bar is converted while required to maintain the buildings historic features, such as louvered doors and brick floors. The buildings beautiful granite facade is left untouched.
The bar / restaurant is named for his Grandmother, a first generation Korean immigrant who inspired Larry throughout his life. They will serve Korean fusion small plates and Korean inspired cocktails.
The bar’s design is directly inspired by Korean and pop influences featuring a large glowing back bar with translucent marble shelves in the traditional form of a pagoda. Materials are infused with Korean cultural references such as bamboo used as the bar top. Concrete stools at the bar nod to the flowing forms of Korean architecture.
A feature wall is perforated with the image of Sun Chong, developed from the photo of her as a young woman. Perforated and patinated copper create the bar face with lights that glow beneath the surface.
